It would be nice to say this week’s sweep represented the takeoff point for an unprecedented season-and-0 run, that Lance Broadway was going to round out the rotation better than anyone expected, or that back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs are the magical province of teams of destiny. Perhaps Ken Griffey, Jr., will raise his average 45 points every single day. Perhaps Mark Buehrle and Javier Vazquez really are the most formidable 1-2 in the American League. Perhaps Paul Konerko can hit with authority once again and perhaps everything in Soxdom is as it should be.
But you can’t believe those things. Not now anyway, not when the team the Sox take it all out on happens to be the damn Royals. Yes, the events of the last three days have been awesome but it’d be foolish to read too much into it. Good teams are supposed to do things like these but, more importantly, every team is supposed to do them against the Royals.
If this happens again, we’ll talk. The Twins, by the way, just took two of three from the Yankees.
Just saying.
